MEET SARAH & JOSH BENTON

Sarah Allen Benton

LCPC, LPC, LMHC, AADC Co-Founder

Sarah is a licensed mental health counselor and alcohol and drug counselor in CT, MA and MT.  She is Co-Founder of BBHC where she supports behavioral health companies in clinical start-up and operational growth.  She is also the Chief Clinical Officer at Waterview Behavioral Health, Intensive Outpatient Program for mental health in Wallingford, CT.  She was formerly the Clinical Strategy Director and Clinical Director for Aware Recovery Care. She has worked at various levels of care including as a Therapist at McLean Hospital in The Brook dual diagnosis treatment program,  Klarman Eating Disorders Center and the Obsessive Compulsive Disorders Institute in Belmont, MA.

She is also author of the books “Parents in Recovery: Navigating a Sober Family Lifestyle” and “Understanding the High-Functioning Alcoholic” and has been featured in NY Times articles by Jane Brody and Rob Walker, has appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show, CBS Early Show, SiriusXM and NPR.

Sarah has worked at and received training through the Mind/Body Medical Institute affiliated with Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Boston (now the Benson-Henry Institute for Mind Body Medicine). In addition, she has been involved in psychologically-based research studies through McLean Hospital, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Northeastern University and the Boston University Center for Anxiety and Related Disorders. Sarah earned a Master of Science in Counseling Psychology degree from Northeastern University in Boston.  Prior to Sarah’s counseling career, she earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Colorado at Boulder’s School of Journalism and Mass Communication and produced television segments in top markets including The Disney Channel in Burbank, California; CBS affiliate KCNC-TV in Denver, Colorado; and NBC affiliate, WHDH-TV in Boston.   Sarah continues to give presentations and CE trainings around the US and Canada on many unique addiction treatment, behavioral health and self-care for caregivers topics.

Sarah has been in recovery from alcohol use disorder since February 2004.

Josh Benton

Co-Founder

Joshua Benton, BSBA is a CO-FOUNDER of BBHC and is dedicated to providing consulting for innovative behavioral health start-up businesses.  He is the Chief Executive Officer at Waterview Behavioral Health Intensive Outpatient Program for mental health in Wallingford, CT.  He was the former Co-Owner and Executive Director of The Strathmore House, transitional sober living program in Boston, MA.  Previously, he was the Executive Director of Turnbridge Extended Care for young adult males with addiction and mental health issues in New Haven, CT.  Additionally, he was the Chief Development Officer for the O’Connor Professional Group that provides intensive case management services for addiction and behavioral health issues in Boston, Massachusetts. He was formerly the Executive Director and founding member of Hopewell Recovery Services continuing care for men and women in Boston, MA. Transitioning from being a small business owner in construction, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Emmanuel College in Boston and his real estate license. Josh’s real-life business experience combined with leadership skills in the recovery community has led to his success in the addiction treatment field.  Josh has been in recovery since June of 2001 and has spent over two decades participating and giving back to the recovery community.

Get to Know Us:

Josh and Sarah have found meaning in their past addiction histories through their work and in touching the lives of others personally and professionally.  They have shared openly about being in long-term recovery with the intent to live by example and to be a resource for others.  They have been blessed to be able to follow their passions in many areas of their lives including spending time with their daughter Eve.  Josh is an avid hunter, outdoorsman and is a brown belt in Jiu Jitsu.  Sarah plays competitive tennis, enjoys skiing, running, yoga and spending time in nature.
